The Julia C. Hester House project in Houston’s Fifth Ward consisted of a three phase development process to revitalize the facilities in order to support an Urban Revival Program in Harris County Precinct One. The intent of the developers was for Hester House to evolve into a center for community activities such as concerts, art exhibits, free classes, family activities, community meetings, and a neighborhood pool to be used for instructional swim. Knudson provided strategic planning for this development, including: site design, landscape architecture, and policy recommendations in support of the project. Knudson also provided an in-depth socio-demographic analysis through creation of a SmartMap™ using GIS technology. This SmartMap™ was used to inform the final Constraints and Opportunities report prepared for the Client.
