If you are anything like me, your day begins with deadlines and ends with a list of deadlines for the next day. Project Managers often hold the variables in their hands that make or break the overall Company’s succes. It is very easy to become overwhelmed with all that must be done; particularly when what must be done is determined by others’ demands on your time.
One way I have found to maintain my focus is yoga. It is a practice that continually helps to refine my focus and increase my ability to remain calm under pressure. You don’t need to be circus-performer flexible to use yoga to your advantage. Some poses are so simple that you can do them at your desk. Below is a link to a series by Yoga Journal that highlights “Office Yoga.” Try doing the pose of the day at one, two, or three intervals during the day (you can even set a reminder in Outlook to “Stop. Stretch. Breathe.”) and notice the difference in the way you feel. Your eyes will be more rested and ready for the next task. Your neck and back will be less likely to tense up as you sit at your computer, and your mind will be refreshed for having taken a momentary bliss break.
Here at Knudson, we are always looking for ways to get more done in less time with a small core group while still maintaining quality. Yoga is an integral tool in that process for me because of the calm it brings to my daily tasks. Give it a try!
